Avoid Windows XP Re-activation

August 27th, 2007 by

If you are a genuine Windows XP user and reinstall windows after some minor hardware changes, XP will ask you re-activate your copy of windows. I feel this is a total waste of time of user and causes incontinence. To avoid this problem, you can do the following:

activate windows

1. Go to folder C:\WINDOWS\system32 and look for a file named wpa.dbl
2. Copy this file to a floppy or CD
3. Now when you reinstall the OS, simple replace this wpa.dbl file from old installation to the new one.
4. Replacing may cause a problem and not get replaced by showing error of “file in use”, so what you do is start the computer in safe-mode (pressing F8 at startup) and then replace the file.
5. Done! You don’t need to activate now!

This trick doesn’t mean that you can install your copy of OS on as many computers as you want, it will only work for one from which the wpa.dbl file was taken.

mac games

So what’s new? There are already tons of games available for PCs and Mac’s not tons for Mac but still. I found a site where I saw lots of mac games and all free to download. These games are not those which require hours of downloading and eat up all your disk space after install, but are small which can be downloaded fast and also require less disk space. Though small, yet these games are fun to play and people of all age find them interesting. If you have a Mac at home, you must download these mac games. I personally use PC as I am more used to windows OS and this website didn’t disappoint PC users as well. I found a really cool rpg games called Magic Stones and will be spending some time playing it now. This game is available for Mac too.

Most of the people use PC and look at Mac user as totally different kind of person. A Mac computer is a work horse I can say because everything we need to do on a computer can be done much easier on a Mac and this is the reason why most of the professionals prefer Mac over PC. It however doesn’t mean that Mac users doesn’t play games, there are lots of mac games available which are free to download and very interesting to play. If you master the game of cards, you will love to play mac solitaire like me.

AMD Native Quad Core

May 21st, 2007 by

AMD will introduce in volume the industry’s first native quad- core processors, meaning that four processing cores will reside on a single silicone die. This contrasts with the competition’s current dual/dual core approach, where two dual- core chips are connected in a quad-core multi- hip module. The Quad-Core AMD Opteron” processors, which will be available for IP to 8P servers and workstations, will also feature micro-architectural enhancements. Indeed. AMD’s new quad-core technology has led experts to suggest that AMD’s approach to multi-core processing is more efficient than that of the competition.

“Intel has pursued a strategy of optimizing time-to-market, whereas AMD has pursued a strategy of optimizing performance,” says Nathan Brookwood, founder of Insight64, a semiconductor and IT analyst firm in Saratoga.
Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors will deliver the same 95-watt electrical and thermal envelope (with low power options) as its current single- and dual core processors, AMD expects that quad-core will advance the performance-per-watt characteristics of AMD Opteron processor-powered systems. Once available, data center managers can benefit by being able to deploy quad-core servers using the same space and infrastructure as existing servers powered by AMD Opteron processors. Current DDR2-based AMD Opteron processor-based platforms will be able to seamlessly upgrade to native Quad-Core AMD processors without compromising performance, power or heat.

Windows freeze during update? Here’s the Fix!

Windows update freeze fix - thenetguruz

Users like me who like to keep the Automatic updates off may have (or in future) encounter a problem during updates. The problem is very critical because it won’t let you update your windows and may also roast your computer if not monitored. How? The problem is like this: you start update process by visiting Microsoft update site and start scanning for updates either Custom or Manual. I prefer manual because I like to choose what to go and what not to go in my computer, anyways whatever you choose the problem starts here. You will notice that the green bar which tells the progress of scanning doesn’t stop even after hours and if you try to click here and there; either there will be no respond or Internet explorer will crash. Computer totally freezes during this endless scan and Taskbar even don’t respond to click. Even if you manage to get to desktop, you cannot do anything.
And what about that roasting? Yes it can happen if your are not around your computer to restart during this havoc, because behind this scan some process start taking lot of CPU usage causing the hang like situation and also taking computer beyond safe temperature limit. Luckily my asus motherboard has auto shutdown feature which saved my computer from roasting.
