TV Piracy Site Shut Down

October 21st, 2007 by Mohd. Hashim Khan

tv piracy

UK based website TV-Links.co.uk was shut down by to British authorities few days back and the webmaster of this site and other staff members are also arrested. Why? Only because their website provided links to TV shows posted on various video-sharing websites, like YouTube or Google Video. Yes only links and they didn’t host any content on their server. They surely must be keeping the illegal content link intentionally but then only a warning and forced illegal content link removal can be done, arrest and total site shut down was not required when torrent sites are openly running which also have the same thing to say that they don’t host any content. Why not shut down YouTube for hosting illegal content? At least why not question YouTube moderation staff at least when TV-Links.co.uk moderation staff was arrested for not doing their job!

Google bought Jaiku?

October 11th, 2007 by Mohd. Hashim Khan

jaiku

Google has recently purchased Jaiku. What is Jaiku? Even I have never heard of such thing before but after finding it, it came out to be a messaging and address book application for PCs and cell phones which let users tag text messages to their friends with picture icons. Google has not said anything on what they have decided to do with Jaiku but according to me they must be thinking to integrate it in Orkut. Just a guess!

Expect more from Google

google phone

Since the launch of Apple iPhone, there were rumors of GPhone by Google but Google knows that just another phone will not be a good thing and they are planning for something more than just a phone. Some people even came up with a futuristic looking phone images calling it GPhone. Google is working on next generation of cell phones since two years and developing applications and a whole new operating system for it. Operating system is going to be a modified version of Linux, the popular open source operating system. Google has planned to open a whole new market of mobile advertising. It’s not so popular now but Google can surely make big profits from it as they champions in targeted advertising!

Microsoft’s statements are empty threats

linux

Few weeks’ back Microsoft claimed that Linux infringes some of its patents and now a solid reply has came from Jerry Rosenthal (CEO OIN) that Microsoft claims are empty and Microsoft must stop slandering Linux. Rosenthal said. “If your patent is a good patent then you are not worried about revealing it before going to court because you would be confident of success.” It was clear that if Microsoft has any patent which are infringed by Linux then they must come up with it and show. I think Microsoft should pay more attention on improving Vista rather than wasting time in these legal fights.

Hackers and the iPhone story

hacked iphone

iPhone remains in news as both hackers and Apple comes up with something new associated with it now and then. Few weeks back hackers were able to do the SIM unlock to make iPhone work on any network. Apple then released a firmware upgrade which made all hacked iPhones totally useless. Now hackers are finding a workaround to this in the form of rollback of firmware and they are successful to some extent. They successfully fixed a broken iPhone into usable state but it was still not working with any network. After some more tweaks, it may be possible to fully recover the phone to a normal state.
