US Telematics introduced ‘Vivee (Voice Interactive Voice Enhanced Email)’ solution during CES 2008 Unveiled NY Press Preview. The Vivee can read email or SMS text messages via activated avatar characters on mobile phones. It could be useful for drivers particularly since it enables them to keep their hands on the wheels. The company is currently teaming up with Palm for this solution.

Confusing 3G technology

Mobile content monitoring specialists report that 3G service users are not able to fully utilize the service. Many of them are not aware of all the features and also confused with the phone software’s. People are downloading content several times as they don’t know how it’s getting saved when it was streamed and also stay away from premium content. There is a need to change the 3G mobiles service, make it interactive and too the point so that majority of people can make use of it.

Samsung developed 8M CMOS camera module

Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced that they developed world’s first 8M CMOS camera module for a cellphone. Featuring a CMOS sensor, this 8M camera module measures only 10.5 X 11.5 X 9.4mm and supports auto focus, which means that it can still maintain a small form factor similar to the size of current 3M camera phone while offering the performance of 8M camera phone?

The company said that they were able to invent this tiny camera module with auto focus functionality thanks to its exclusive PIEZO technology, and they will start mass production in the first half of next year.

3D content without wearing glasses

DIS rolled out its new 3D LCD monitor ‘1040S’ in Korea market. The 1040S is a Parallax Barrier type 3D monitor that allows users to enjoy 3D content without wearing glasses. It also supports wide viewing angle that enables multiple users to view the content simultaneously. It is also cable of switching from 2D to 3D naturally with a simple switch.

By employing ‘ALT (Advanced Layer Technology)’ technology, the company claims that the 1040S offers clear bright image, successfully resolving the perennial problem of low brightness for the Parallax Barrier type monitors. The company developed its own player ‘3DIS Stereoscopic Player’ for stable 3D video playback.

Sun Joo Lee, CEO of this company, said that potential demand for 3D monitor is increasing and if they can acquire price competitiveness, they will be able to expand market share quickly. The company is also undertaking a new project to make the thickness of the monitor slimmer by 2mm so that it could be used for laptop computers.

Intel invents spill-proof laptop

Intel has developed a keyboard for laptops which can be called real spill proof keyboard. There are already some models of laptop which has a spill proof keyboard but they have certain limitations and in most cases of liquid drop, they fail to do the job. The one Intel is making will use a special semi-porous material that Chipzilla boffins have grown in a test tube. This material will allow the keyboard to be sealed and yet there will be ample air flow to keep the laptop cool. Without this semi-porous material, sealing the keyboard will blog the air that processor cooling fan requires.

Mind reading tool by Microsoft

Software giant Microsoft has developed a tool that claims to read your mind. According to New Scientist magazine, the Vole has developed a way of analyzing data directly from your brain via EEGs. The difficulty with use of EEGs as a system of data collecting is that even when you blink, scratch yourself, or think of food etc, you disturb the brain signals. Microsoft hope that it can use the data to build improved interfaces which are more in harmony with what the user’s brain expects. Of course it might also represent that it discovers that its software is not accepted right to the back of someone’s brain stem.
