Samsung 42-inch PDP TV is causing enormous complaints from consumers in Korea market. In just two months, over six hundreds cases involving Samsung 42-inch PDP TV sold between year 2005 and year 2006. Most of the complaints are with the screen; black or blue lines appear and hide half of the screen or subtitles are not stable. Industry experts say that the problems may be related to panel.


Korea Consumer Agency, a governmental organization established to protect consumer rights and interests, announced that regarding Samsung’s four 42-inch PDP TV models (’SPD-42S5HD’ ‘SPD-42S5HDM’ ‘SPD-42P5HD’ ‘SPD-42P5HDM’) they officially requested Samsung to recall them and repair them at no charge due to some product defects. An official of Samsung Electronics said that they are considering offering extended warranty of two years and now they are waiting for the agreement of industry affiliates and Ministry of Finance and Economy. However, extending warranty period instead of solving original product defect may increase the burden of extended warranty and cost to other players in the industry.
