HTC Desire Android phone

April 19th, 2011 by admin

Ever since Android operating system became famous among cell phone manufactures, Android phones also became one of the most demanded multimedia phones in the market. I can tell this when I saw the first Android phone that just came in the shop and it was sold off within few minutes without even checking all its features. Now after updates in Android OS, it has become very stable and use friendly. More and more applications are developed and released for this OS which increase the usefulness of a phone running Android OS.
Since almost every manufacture has its line of Android phones, it was hard to select a phone which doesn’t cost a lot of money and still gives maximum features and of course runs on latest Android OS. HTC Desire is one such phone that I came to know about from my favorite mobile phones website Dial A Phone. Talking about the HTC Desire, it’s a phone just right for those who a feature packed phone; its list of features is endless. There are many things to talk about, but let’s look at the phone features at a glance:
CPU: 1GHZ
RAM 576MB
Format supported: .aac, .amr, .ogg, .m4a, .mid, mp3, .wav, 3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .wmv
Battery Capacity: 1400 mAh
Network: HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Camera: 5MP
Data: 3G, GPRS, EDGE, WiFi
Weight: 135Gms

The 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor in the HTC Desire is very responsive and phone doesn’t show any lag in operating even when you have multiple applications running. Looks are subjective but I find it an elegant phone to have in your pocket. Its design is such that it will suit both students and corporate users.

Rounded Corner Box without using image

April 18th, 2011 by admin

In webpage designing when you have to make a rounded corner box, you have an easy option to put whole box image or go thru difficult option of using just rounded corner images and placing them on each corner using CSS. But now you can have perfectly smooth rounded corner boxes without any use of image. All you have to do is define the box as a DIV and then have few lines of CSS for that DIV. Here is an example of what I am talking about:

HTML:

<div id=”rcbox”></div>

CSS:

#rcbox {

width: 300px;

height: 300px;

background-color:#3CF;

-moz-border-radius: 20px;

-webkit-border-radius: 20px;

border-radius: 20px;

}

OUTPUT:

Yes it’s just that simple and beauty of this CSS is that if you want more curvy box then all you need to do is just increase the value of ‘border-radius’. Obviously the height and width of this box is also flexible and can be changed in CSS to desired value.

All new browsers support this CSS except old IE versions.

April 8th, 2011 by admin

Buying a CCTV security camera is sometimes a tricky job when you have so many types of cameras available at different prices, you don’t really have an idea that which one suits your need best. Buying the most expensive one at a place where a cheaper one can do the job well is not wise either. To get the best suited camera and at the best price, you need specialist. Security Cameras are available at various online stores but there is one store called cctvimports.com which deals only in security cameras and its related components like lenses, monitors, power supplies and cables etc. They have almost everything you will ever need for security monitoring purpose at one place. There are lots of models and for zero confusion they have a strong live support system which helps you decide on your camera requirements.

If you are looking for security system in your home or office where no one will be watching the CCTV videos, I would recommend DVR Security Cameras because they will give you digital recording facility. Digital recording on media like hard disk or flash disk means no need of purchasing recording media again and again. Since you will not be always be sitting and watching the camera output on screen, recording the whole thing is much better so that when you have free time, you can watch the recording. These recordings also work as a proof in case of theft or other incidence.

Website down? Watch your Scripts

April 8th, 2011 by admin

If you have a nice website with many scripts running and you often feel sluggishness in loading of pages or worst the whole website does down from time to time, it’s not always a sign of bad webhost. Work with clients I have received complaints about website going down and when digging into the matter it was found that number of process were a lot more than what were allotted by the hosting to that particular account. To avoid misuse and proper distribution of resources amongst its customers, shared hosting providers sometimes allot a fix number of allowed simultaneous process than can run in one account. Now when number of process exceed the maximum allowed, your website will go down and resume again itself when process decrease. To understand this, let’s assume these processes to be similar to the process running in your windows based home PC.  You should have noticed that when number of process increase in your taskmanager, your computer responds slower. Web servers are computer too, so when your website start running lots of processes it gives substantial load on the system making your website responds slower. In normal conditions chances of increasing process count is very less likely but when your website have several scripts that have several loop holes, it can result in increase in number of process. One of the most common culprit is the newsletter system, it require many mails to be sent and if it is abused by spammers then you know you are in trouble.

  1. Firstly you should be aware of what types and how many scripts are included in every pages of your website.  Use good quality scripts and avoid alphas and betas.
  2. Remove any unnecessary script that many be included on many pages of your website, like script for embedding flash content and page may not have any flash content at all. Keep watch on those heavy frameworks scripts too!
  3. If you use mailing script for sending mass emails to your users, make sure you have some delay while sending mails. Sending 1000 emails at once is a big no but sending 1000 emails with gap of 30 seconds after every 10 emails is ok.

Making website on your own

April 6th, 2011 by admin

When it comes to making website on your own and you don’t know what all web programming is all about, you end up giving the work to some professional. Now when you contact a professional web designer, what they first do is the requirement analysis. This is a required step as the web designer doesn’t know anything about your website requirements so he does a series of requirement analysis. This is a good practice but you end up wasting a lot of time and this is a known fact that no matter how much requirement analysis is done, you will not get 100% accurate results and at end you have to get changes done and at some places compromise and adjust according to what you get. Overdrive Magazine Steals Content

April 3rd, 2011 by admin

Overdrive is an auto magazine featuring reviews on cars and bikes. With these review they also review separate auto parts which are sometimes paid articles. Recently their Aril issue carried out a paid article on GoodYear tyres brand which focused on a travelogue story which was not written by Overdrive editorial team but by a moderator (forum nickname: tsk1979) of famous auto forum team-bhp.com. Everything seems right here as people do submit articles but here the case is of stealing, neither the tsk1979 is an Overdrive magazine reader nor he gave his article to them for publishing.  This kind of open plagiarism by popular auto magazine is really sad and shocking. Since the whole story was edited for paid article for Goodyear Tyre Company, the story was slightly modified to mention use of Goodyear tyre in tsk1979 vehicle. Even after contacting Overdrive by tsk1979, they did not bother paying him any compensation (because article is already published and nothing can be done now) or even ask for apology.  tsk1979 reported that even his travelogue pictures were used in the article, in fact the whole article with pictures was simply copied from the team-bhp forum (link)

Overdrive will now (or is doing) everything to reject claims of tsk1979 by deleting all user comments on their facebook page but proof speaks for themselves and I hope at least Goodyear takes action against overdrive magazine to keep itself clean from any kind of false advertising.
