Blogging can be profitable too

July 12th, 2007 by Mohd. Hashim Khan

As a new blogger I always use to visit successful blogs to know what they are doing, to whom they are affiliated with and get ideas etc. I was posting about stuff I was interested. I am a gadget freak so use to post a lot about gadgets and gizmos, but sometime I use to think that I am publicizing their product and in return these companies offer nothing. Although some visited my blog, posted their comment, emails me personally with appreciation and that use to be my good day. I saw some bloggers placing ads on blogs or better call it advertorial. I was amazed that now these companies are ready to pay us for posting about their products or services! This was all made possible by a website called Payerpost which connected bloggers with advertisers. If you are a new blogger and want to make some real money out of your blog, I recommend payperpost. Apart from this, you can also try affiliate programs and PPP direct which let any advertiser who visited your site to contact you and offer you to write about them. Go, join now and indulge yourself in new standard of blogging!

Breakthrough in Cancer Treatment

July 11th, 2007 by Mohd. Hashim Khan

Not long back cancer was considered an incurable disease and still some cases arise when it cannot be cured. Medical science recent development in the field of ultra sound technology has led to a development of a technology called HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) and it has been found very useful in postate cancer treatment . HIFU (sometimes also called as FUS or HIFUS) is a highly precise medical procedure using high-intensity focused ultrasound to heat and destroy pathogenic tissue rapidly. Since quite a high intensity of ultrasound waves are used and it cause heat, it can damage other healthy tissues as well, so to avoid this the whole process is computerized and made sure its done accurately and HIFU is targeted on pathogenic tissues only. These ultrasonic waves cause the rise in temperature within the tissue (65° to 85°C) destroying the diseased tissue by coagulation necrosis. Here with the help of MRI, the whole procedure is accurately performed and this is also sometimes referred as Magnetic Resonance guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS).Using this technique prostate, liver, and boner cancer is treated successfully and trials on other types of cancer are also underway. HIFU devices like ablatherm are mostly used in such treatment due to their high precision and safety. More advanced machines with 3D imaging function etc are also available for those areas where even more precision is required like in brain tumor cases.

Domain name madness

July 9th, 2007 by Mohd. Hashim Khan

domain already taken

People who spend sometime on internet know that premium domains sell for very high price like beer.com, mp3.com and so on. Anyone can buy these domains and later sell it for very high price. But usually if these domain are of less than three word cost the same around $8 but these are sold for high due to popularity. I came to know about this few years back but didn’t care to register. Today if I go and try to find a good domain, I will waste hours searching and will find that almost every good and meaningful word found in dictionary is already registered. Not only English, but of other languages too. Still I started searching for some good Hindi word domain names but I was surprised to see all of them registered. Due to my frustration I started typing words like kameena , harami, suar etc which are considered bad words in Hindi but these are also registered! Here if you want to have a good laugh, I’ll recommend you to search them again on godaddy and see what the website suggest you under “More Options” Search for all the bad words you know and crack up laughing. See this for example:

bad domain names

Who will buy such domain? At least I just consider these domains of no use.

Handy Recovery Software

July 5th, 2007 by Mohd. Hashim Khan

Few days back we got hand on software called Handy Recovery, and decided to test it. Here as the name suggest, it’s not one of those big software which take control of your PC and make it slow. The work of recovery software is to recover data from disk if it gets deleted or corrupt (not readable). Floppies as we all know are the most unreliable for storing data, so we decided to use it for the test. If it can recover data fron this, it will recover from any other disk easily.

I used a 4 year old floppy from an unknown manufacturer that came with a joystick and the driver; this floppy had bad sectors too. This is going to be a hard time for Handy Recovery. Let’s begin the test:

Step 1: I copied some files of various types like image, notepad, excel, pdf, video, mp3, word, compressed zip file etc which are the commonly stored file types on normal PC user. Then I deleted it by pressing shift button so that nothing goes to recycle bin and gets deleted permanently.

Step 2: Now I scanned this floppy with handy recovery to see if I can get my deleted files back. Here you can see in the screenshot, all the deleted files were detected. However they are detected only and not recovered yet. Recovered files can be restored on another disk also for safety reason; I used "D:/Recovered Files" as the default location for all my restored files.
Step 3: As you can see a question mark “?” before some file names, it happens when the software is not able to recover file names, in that case it prompt us to rename it while recovering, else it automatically replace those “?” with  “_” . Recovering files was quite fast considering slow speed of floppy drive and took not more than a minute. All the files were successfully recovered!

Pros: Affordable data recovery software that works.

Cons: Was not able to recover file from formatted disk.

ASUS Eee PC – $199 Laptop

July 3rd, 2007 by Mohd. Hashim Khan

ASUS Eee PC

A month back ASUS launched a new series of laptop named ASUS Eee PC with much lower price tag of just $199. Being cheap, this laptop doesn’t come with latest Windows Vista OS and all the bells and whistles but it does have all the basic required features. Its technical details are as follows:

- Processor: 900MHz Intel Dothan based Pentium M
- RAM: 512MB DDR2
- Chipset: Intel’s 910 mobile
- 802.11g wireless capability
- HDD: 4GB Flash (8 / 16 GB also available)
- Display Size: 7 inch.
- Connectivity: 10/100 Ethernet
- Battery type: 4 cell
- Weight: 0.89Kg

If you feel 900 MHz is quite low but then think of the small size of the laptop, small size means small battery to feed the power hungry higher clocked processor and less space for heat dissipation. The same reason maybe why a regular laptop hard disk is replaced with an 8GB Flash Disk which should cost the same as a regular 40GB laptop hard disk. There is no optical drive as well and no space for future upgrade as well but an external drive can be easily installed using USB port. There are 4 USB ports in this laptop. With less moving parts inside, this laptop runs quietly and without getting much hot. It comes pre-installed with Linux. This laptop will be able to run Windows Xp well, so those who are interested in this laptop must buy the cheaper $199 model and save $100 for buying an external laptop hard disk with casing.

Pros: Light weight and very portable. Hinge looks very sturdy

Cons: Display could have been little bigger and so the internal disk space.
