Improving Energy Efficiency In The Workplace

August 5th, 2011 by admin

You should be looking for any way you can to cut the costs of doing business. Sometimes, especially in a weak economy, a company’s ability to save is just as important as their productivity. Saving on your operating budget, whether it’s improving your employees’ Health information and awareness, or switching to a paperless system, is essential. When you’re talking business, it all comes down to the dollars and cents and energy is the biggest concern for any business, regardless of size. It’s one of the largest portions of any operating budget and prices are projected to continue increasing in the coming years.

The environmental movement has gained a lot of ground in the last decade as energy and living costs have increased, but this growth in popularity has more to do with the bottom line that anything else. Though new computers and technology are becoming more efficient, it doesn’t hurt to make changes to your office that will decrease your energy consumption and streamline your energy needs. You have to be aware of several key factors.

It doesn’t matter how aggressive your approach to conservation is, you’re still going to need energy to operate your business. It’s about rethinking the way you use power. For starters, underneath the carpet or in the ceiling panel work, there is a vast network of wires and plugs that are moving incredible currents of power. This is why, in most office buildings, cell phones have a tough time working properly, it’s because there’s so much energy interference. Talk to a contractor or electrical engineer to figure out a way to operate a kill switch. This isn’t to be used during office hours, but for when no one is there. Offices use an incredibly amount of energy while no one is even there.
Another option is to have a network of power chords with built-in kill switches. These will completely turn off any power source coming in and stop usage totally. Most people don’t realize that if an appliance, device, or piece of electronic is plugged into a socket, it’s still consuming power. Find better ways to plug in. You’ll need electricity, but think about how you can alter your system to become more efficient.

Computers eat tons of electricity, but newer models have features that are built in that automatically shut down or go to sleep when they’re not used. The also require less energy to run. You might be using antiquated computers that, for what you need them for, work just fine, but also eat a lot of energy. Upgrading to newer energy efficient models might, at first seem cost prohibitive, but it’ll be worth the investment.

There’s going to come a time soon when businesses will completely change the way they operate in terms of energy usage. While our businesses rely increasingly on computer technology our demand for energy will increase. As the laws of supply and demand go, prices are just going to rise. As this increase continues, it’s going to cause more concern and wreak havoc on budgets. Perhaps you should think of different ways you can change the way your business consumes.

DIY fix for car or bike engine knocking

August 5th, 2011 by admin

Does your car or bike engine knocks and does not idle at constant rate? This is a common problem with petrol engines and mostly people think it related to bad fuel or some dirt in the carburetor or injector in case of MPFI. Adding some kind of anti knocks additives to the petrol will reduce this for a while but it’s like taking painkiller tablet and not knowing the root cause of pain. Here I will tell you a simple DIY by which you can check and most probably fix the knocking the irregular idling problem of your car or bike.

First step will be to remove the spark plug caps (if there are several like in case of car, put a mark so that you know which one goes where when you refit them) and using the plug removing tool, remove each spark plugs one by one. Just like screws you need to unscrew plugs in anti-clockwise direction. You may plug the hole with cloth pieces so that you don’t accidently drop anything inside that hole.

Now when you have the plugs in your hand, clean them with an old toothbrush using paint thinner. If you don’t have paint thinner then you can also use petrol. Please wear latex gloves and goggles while doing this. Do not use sand paper or any other thing to clean plugs which can increase the plug gap.
After you have cleaned the plugs and they are completely dry we need to check these using a digital multimeter. We are using a simple multimeter which cost very less and often found in homes. Set the multimeter to “diode” mode and touch the probes (any, no polarity issue here) to the points marked with green color arrow in the picture. If the plug is healthy, you should see a reading close to 0 that is no more than 1 or 2. If the reading is very high or worst there is no reading at all then you need to buy a new plug. Similarly check all the plugs. Change the bad plugs with new ones. If you are able to pull out the plug cables from other end also you will have two ends of the plug cable which you can also check using the multimeter in similar way. Here reading can be any number from 0 to 15. If you are getting reading that is more than 15 then it means cable is worn out. Replace the cable with new one. Usually we replace the full set and not just one. Once you have done this I am sure you will find knocking problem and many other problems like late start and irregular idling gone.

Best Apps For Mobile Blogging

August 1st, 2011 by admin

The great thing about the thousands of applications out there is that they have made life just that much easier. You can do anything from a comfy spot on the sofa – play a video game, download movies, and even update your blog. Companies like AT&T have revolutionized the industry while working in conjunction with Apple to produce amazing mobile devices like the iPhone. You no longer have to worry about being chained to your laptop or desktop to get work done, so here’s a list of some super helpful apps that’s opened up new front in the world of mobile blogging:

iBlogger:

This one is, not surprisingly, that’s on the top of the list. It’s all about blogging made easy. Some blogging apps target specific platforms and are very centric to certain software programs, but iBlogger is an iPhone app that’s designed by illumineX that has a lot of really amazing features you won’t find through some other apps, like WordPress. With this app, you can connect different platforms that you’re currently using at a very low cost. It’s cheaper and more effective than many of the alternatives out there, and will only run you about ten dollars. With all of that said, it’s not perfect. The app doesn’t allow you to upload images, but the benefits outweigh the negatives. Keeping in the same vein as all the other iPhone apps, it’s incredibly user friendly for those of us out there who aren’t internet developers.

WordPress

This new app for iOS has taken WordPress to the next level. It has an entirely new platform that’s designed and optimized to employ the many advantages of the iPad and iPhone’s new user interface. It’s made blogging that much simpler. It’s currently available on Apple’s App store. Users are now able to create and edit posts, and also add photos. The new app has a spell check, and all of these features are available to users without the hassle or need to write a single line of code. It’s never been easier to update and stay in touch with your followers with the new iOS WordPress app.

WordMobi

This is a free app that has many of the same features as the other to examples above, but with a little less pizzazz. It will help you manage your blog with common operating features such as posting, approving comments, deleting posts, and many other things. It’s highly functional and works well for basic blogging functions. It’s not a high-powered app, but it’s a useful tool for those who don’t want to go with an app that costs.
It’s essential for any blogger to stay in touch with their public, and by using these apps, as well as other comparable options, you can do just that. Keep your blog active and mobile with your smartphone so you can keep your readers and clients updated on a continual basis.
