portable dvd player

This portable 10 inch DVD player from Digitalframez is a new product featuring DivX and MPEG4 playing capability which was not seen before in other portable DVD players. Those who still don’t know what DivX , it’s a video compression format which makes video file size much lower than DVD format without any noticeable loss in quality. So it’s good to have this format playing capability in a DVD player. Another unique feature of this player which is not found in other players in the market is that you can use it to watch TV channels also. The TV tuner inside this portable DVD player enables you to watch TV channels on it.

With these features you might be thinking of using it in your car and same thinks the company so they also give the option of powering this device from cigarette lighter plug of the car. While at other places you can run it on rechargeable battery which comes with it (provides 4 hours of continues play time) or use 240V AC/DC Wall power Adaptor (provided in the package) to save battery. Audio output is 2.1 with 3D surround effect. Inbuilt speakers do provide stereo output but at home you may hook amplifier and larger speakers if you want for listening music. The 10.4-inch LCD screen is also good for viewing photos. Top loading DVD mechanism allows you to play DVD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW discs.

Microsoft’s statements are empty threats

Few weeks’ back Microsoft claimed that Linux infringes some of its patents and now a solid reply has came from Jerry Rosenthal (CEO OIN) that Microsoft claims are empty and Microsoft must stop slandering Linux. Rosenthal said. “If your patent is a good patent then you are not worried about revealing it before going to court because you would be confident of success.” It was clear that if Microsoft has any patent which are infringed by Linux then they must come up with it and show. I think Microsoft should pay more attention on improving Vista rather than wasting time in these legal fights.

How to make better websites Part – 1

webdesign

This small guide can be useful for anyone who makes websites of any kind. Here are some points that one should remember:

1. Never just start a website because you want to, make plans and think ahead of like which age group will mostly visit your site, what kind of people will get attracted to it more. Once you make a list of targeted visitors, it will help you a lot in designing the website.

2. Do something new. Yes starting with the design of the website, the design should be new and unique so that people may recognize it easy and don’t get confused with other similar sites. You need to think like a person who will be browsing your site for this and not as a designer.

3. Use pen and paper. With paper and pen it’s very easy to make a rough idea on how your website will be; especially the design part can be done easily. You can draw complex designs on paper easily rather than doing vector thingy on heavy weight graphic software’s. I do it like this only and most of the design made by me comes right from the canvas.

4. Easy navigation is important. People may like your website for few seconds but as soon as they will find that they are not able to find things for which they have came to your site easy, they will simply close the window and open google.com again to search for some better site. Trust me if your website offer ease of navigation, enough content and update frequently; your visitors will see your site as a standard to judge any other similar website.

5. Clean and correct codes pls. Try to make your site a valid XHTML as much as possible. I am not talking of strict validation and if there are some errors then no need to worry, it’s ok. Only simple web pages can be made valid and as the website gets complex, keeping it valid is real pain I know. A valid XHTML site (or invalid but with few errors only) is easy for search engines to index. Keep you codes clean and use CSS wisely to make your site as light as possible so that it loads quickly. I use Dreamweaver and it creates valid codes and CSS. No one likes a slow website; if your website is slow then you are loosing many visitors because of it. Using too much JavaScript will also make your website heavy and make browser unstable.

6. No funny gif animation. The animated images with flashy colors distract the visitor and give a cheap feeling to the site. Use of flash is ok but with moderate and decent looking animation / effects. If you are using some flash, then it should be big as it many take a lot of time to load and again the visitor is annoyed.

Will continue it in part 2…

Balanced Scorecard Designer

Business is not started any day with no proper planning. People, who don’t plan well and start a business with no goal, will surely fail to develop a good successful business. A new approach to strategic management was developed in the early 1990′s by Drs. Robert Kaplan (Harvard Business School) and David Norton. They named this system the ‘balanced scorecard’. The balanced scorecard is a management system (not only a measurement system) that enables organizations to clarify their vision and strategy and translate them into action. It provides feedback around both the internal business processes and external outcomes in order to continuously improve strategic performance and results. When fully deployed, the balanced scorecard transforms strategic planning from an academic exercise into the nerve center of an enterprise. Today implementing balanced scorecard to your own business is very easy by use means of computer. The Balanced Scorecard Designer (BSC Designer), software by Strategy2Act is one such good example of a computer application which allows creating scorecards. This software simplifies the process of creating and managing Balanced Scorecards.

Modern businesses depend upon measurement and analysis of performance. Measurements must derive from the company’s strategy and provide critical data and information about key processes, outputs and results. Data and information needed for performance measurement and improvement are of many types, including: customer, product and service performance, operations, market, competitive comparisons, supplier, employee-related, and cost and financial. Analysis entails using data to determine trends, projections, and cause and effect — that might not be evident without analysis. Data and analysis support a variety of company purposes, such as planning, reviewing company performance, improving operations, and comparing company performance with competitors’ or with ‘best practices’ benchmarks. Balanced scorecard incorporates feedback around internal business process outputs, as in TQM, but also adds a feedback loop around the outcomes of business strategies. This creates a “double-loop feedback” process in the balanced scorecard. The balanced scorecard framework is designed in such a way to carry out the entire necessary task easily. The simple yet powerful interface of this software let user to create scorecards, categories and goals. Performance measurement and calculation can also be performed at no time using this software. For all your balanced scorecard management, BSC Designer is highly recommended and just don’t go on my words and try this software yourself free for 30 days and then decide. You can download the trial version from the website right away, no questions asked and no long forms to fill. System requirements are also very less so it would run on most of the computers without any problem.

100GB Blu-ray Disc by Hitachi

100gb disc

We have been using dual layer DVD, now Hitachi has came up with quad layer (still in development) using Blu-Ray technology which will enable upto 100GB of data onto a single disc. What’s interesting to note that there will be no need to buy any new blu-ray drive and just a firmware upgrade would enable existing blu-ray drives to accept this quad layer disc. Company also said that they are working on eight layer variant of this technology which would double the capacity to 200GB. It’s good that these disc capacities are increasing and it will prove best for HD movie releases but for PC users thinking of making their own HD disc of home movies, I would say burning 100GB will be a boring task even with fastest hardware.
